Preston, and what reaches it3 Wren Street · PR1 6TB

The registered office is 3 Wren Street, Preston, PR1 6TB. Preston is where the M6 and the M55 meet, which is the whole reason a stockroom works from here rather than somewhere with cheaper floor space: the city sits at the junction between the north-south motorway and the road west to the coast.

What follows is the geography that decides which deliveries are a morning's work and which are a day's, drawn as a diagram rather than borrowed from a mapping service.

The roads, as a diagram

Schematic road plan around Preston A diagram, not to scale, showing the M6 running north and south to the east of Preston, the M55 west towards Blackpool, the M65 east towards Blackburn, the A6 through the city, the River Ribble to the south and the registered office marked in the city centre. 3 WREN STREET PR1 6TB M6 M55 M65 A6 A59 A583 PRESTON BLACKPOOL LANCASTER BLACKBURN CHORLEY LEYLAND SOUTHPORT CLITHEROE DOCK RIBBLE WEST COAST MAIN LINE
Schematic and not to scale. The M6 runs north and south to the east of the city, the M55 west to the Fylde coast, the M65 east towards Blackburn and Burnley, the A6 straight through the centre, and the West Coast Main Line beside it. The Ribble is the water to the south, with the dock basin on its north bank.

Every road on the diagram is drawn because it changes how a consignment is planned, not because it is near. The M55 is the only dual route onto the Fylde, so a delivery to the coast is one road out and the same road back, and a closure on it has no alternative that is not a village. The M65 does the same job eastward into the mill towns. The A6 and the A59 are the roads a van uses when the motorway is the wrong tool, which on a multi-drop round through the city it usually is.

The catchment, by the road that reaches it

Places within a working round of the office, and what the road decides
RefPlaceRoadWhat that means for a drop
G1Leyland and ChorleyM6 south, or the A6Close enough to serve on the same round as the city centre
G2Blackpool, Lytham and the FyldeM55 westOne route out and back, so a closure is a reschedule and not a diversion
G3Blackburn and BurnleyM65 eastMotorway the whole way, but the drops themselves are in tight town centres
G4Lancaster and the northM6 northStraightforward, and the point at which a pallet beats a van
G5Southport and West LancashireA59 south-westNo motorway, so it is planned on road time and not on distance
G6Wigan, Bolton and the southM6 and M61Into the Manchester hinterland, where a pallet network is the sensible answer

G4 and G6 are in the table to mark where a van stops making sense. A single outer to a store two streets away and a pallet to a depot fifty miles off are the same transaction on the specification sheet and nothing like each other on the road, which is why the order fields on the wholesale page ask for the pallet configuration and the delivery window before anything is picked.

That address is the registered office and the correspondence address, and the mailbox in A8 is the channel for both. A delivery or a collection is arranged in writing first, because the specification, the residual-life figure and the delivery window all have to be settled before a pallet is built, and none of those is a doorstep conversation.
